How to command respect in a relationship

  • Respect yourself
  • Surround yourself with people that share your same values and beliefs
  • Have a strong commitment to your values and beliefs and stick to them
  • Have strong character
  • Be independent--not dependent on the other person or your relationship for feelings of self-worth or value
  • Have other close same sex friendships
  • Have an interest in your own activities as well as those of your boyfriend/girlfriend
  • Be confident
  • Be willing to give the other person space and time with their own friends when they need it without feeling threatened by time apart
  • Be unselfish
  • Pursue an active walk with God
  • Be unwilling to compromise your standards
  • Watch how you dress, what you say, how you touch--don't send mixed messages.
